The explosion was apparently outside the stadium. They kept playing the game, which when you think about it was smart. There are 60,000 people in there, and right now it's the safest place for them.

France is the most heavily policed place, as in visible cops around, with some carrying submachine guns, I have ever been to. Nothing in the States compares. Soccer match security is extremely, as in you will be frisked, tight. Apparently, the main acts took place in a crowded restaurant sprayed with gunfire from cars (nothing any cop could do) and an attack on a heavy metal concert, where there are still many hostages, but you'd figure there would have been police present in the normal order of things.

On a related note, while this place can annoy the **** out of me, I appreciate that whenever a significant news event happens, this is inevitably the first place I can go to follow it.
