Good for Patrick. The show has grown a ton the past 12-18 months, certainly helped by it being televised. But it's also funny and entertaining, something I really don't get the rare times I tune in to ESPN Radio shows.

It's just a very clever way for Patrick to stick the knife in a little deeper, which really suits his persona.

I was at a Miami-Virginia Tech game at the Orange Bowl when GameDay was there. This was around about 2000 and was the same day they did the morning show from there and flew to Tallahassee to do an evening show for one of the Bowden Bowls.

Anyway, the crowd in the OB parking lot had some of the ugliest, dirtiest signs you can imagine that day and the ESPN folks called it the unruliest crowd they'd ever had for one of their shows. Even so, they wouldn't confiscate signs because they said they weren't allowed to. One guy actually said it was a free speech issue.

Apparently that thinking has changed.

Beyond free speech issues, it might depend on what campus they're on and what state laws would apply should someone's property be taken from them.

How can ESPN confiscate signs? Almost all of the Gameday events are at public university. Barring obscenity, what standing does ESPN have to confiscate a sign? There are enough bored law students out there and people who hate ESPN, this seems like a really easy lawsuit against a public university which allows this to happen.
