I'm just kind of amazed that someone — anyone — paid for a ticket to hear Meat Loaf in concert. Entertainment options in Edmonton must be awfully goddamned thin.

Not a fan, right?

Not especially. I mean, yeah I'll listen to his music on the radio when it's on, won't immediately switch stations, but...

... go to a Meat Loaf concert? Why?

"Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is the most insufferable eight-and-a-half minutes in any karaoke bar on the planet.

I mean, he did record the fourth or fifth highest-selling album of all time. He's not my cup of tea, but he's not exactly toiling in obscurity.

I just wonder about the quality of his live shows, as he always seemed like the quintessential studio creation to me.

I went to a live show about 20 years or so, and, while it was a fun show, "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" had some insufferable minutes when Loaf and the woman singer stopped it halfway through and turned it into a debate about how guys and women view sex. Yes, a debate.

But the original is one of the greatest ******* pieces of musical theater, and forever will be.

Phil Rizzuto telling the story of his involvement in the song -- including calling Meatloaf a huckleberry -- is damn funny.

Yeah. If I remember right, he knew he was doing the play-by-play for a song, but didn't find out until later what his broadcast was referring to.

I know, right? Weird that people enjoy listening to live music. I blame Obama.

To perhaps see his very last concert?

From the CBC story: "Meat Loaf has seven more Canadian dates scheduled through July 2 in Moose Jaw. The next show is scheduled for Cold Lake, Alta., on Saturday."

Is Meat Loaf big in Canada the way David Hasselhoff was in Germany, but we in the US are just unaware of this?
