I have a career study project for my class and I need to interview at least one active and one aspiring journalist. If you'd like to lend me some of your time, I'll only be about 15 minutes. Thank You.

Don't do it, kid. Pick another career. Be a helicopter pilot or something, something with a future.

Pick out one of the board vigilantes. I'm sure they have exciting tales about how they cracked down on someone who wore the wrong Halloween costume. Meanwhile, their town's water went bad, and a bunch of money disappeared from the city accounts. But that's what metros are for.

Could you possibly direct me to one of these people. I've only made this account an hour or so ago haha

Thanks for the assistance.

He's messing with you. Take any suggestions with a massive grain of salt.

Unfortunately, most of the people on this board are ex-sports journalists, myself included. We just stick around because no other message boards will welcome our uncompromising asshole-ishness and precise grammar.

Regardless, good luck with your project. Hope you hear from some of the remaining active journalists around here.

I face this all the time, as our high schools require a senior project that includes job shadowing. So we often have kids hang around the newsroom and asking us questions about the business.

Don't sugarcoat it ... when an industry has lost half of its work force in the past 10 years, that says it all.

9 posts and no one told him to fetch beer yet?
Y'all be slipping.
Case of something cold, stat newbie.

I gave him some great suggestions. You just reminded me of another one I should have given him.

I tell young people who ask, if you really have a passion for it then do it as a hobby/side hustle. But find a better career.

Better idea: Try calling reporters at your local newspapers. Their numbers/email are usually easy to find, you can be sure of their identity (and maybe even research them a bit before speaking with them so that you can ask better questions), and they may actually be able to help you get a job in your area some day if you make a good impression.

Why bother coming here?
