Michael Vick out early?

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

I can't imagine what goes on inside the mind of a person responsible for inflicting the kind of pain and suffering those dogs went through. I think they should keep him locked up. With that said, I think any person, not just Vick, who carries out those kinds of acts should be locked up for a long time.

Dear Roger Goodell:

Please be aware that when and if you ever allow Michael Vick to play, you can look forward to about 50,000 of these outside the stadium:

Oh, and those Campbell's Soup ads (or any product aimed at a 'family' audience) ??

Kiss 'em goodbye.

Can you say "boycott"? I know you can.

So far, you've been doing a pretty good job bringing the hammer down on thugs. Keep it up.

Oh? And the dumb**** players quoted in the AP stories as supporting Vick?

Sock 'em with a quick $50,000 or so fine for "comments detrimental to the league."

Not enough to really seriously bother a multimillion-dollar athlete, but enough to make them think, "****, maybe I better STFU about it. If it's $50,000 this time, it might be $500,000 next time."

boycotts also become a little easier to follow through on in a ****ty economy.

If I was a NFL team, the only way I would even consider him would be to use in a similar way to how Pittsburgh used Kordell during his rookie season.

No way does any team trust him as the starting QB. The Raiders have Russell, the Cowboys have Romo and even though Campbell isn't exactly a superstar in Washington, I don't see him being a fit there either.

Jerry signs Vick as Romo's backup, since right now he has none. Has a press conference and claims the deal is ``low risk,'' or a ``win-win.''

No one will sign Vick as a starter until he shows he can be trusted to stay out of trouble. Jerry won't be able to resist the publicity Vick will generate, nor the fantasy football aspect of having this guy on his team.

If JJ pulls this stunt, it'd just be another piece of evidence as to why the 'Boys are fully of fail at the real Moments of Truth.

Michael Vick to the Cowboys.

1) Jerry Jones doesn't care about a player's background. Exhibit A: Adam Jones. Exhibit B: Terrell Owens.
2) He still thinks he's playing fantasy football.
3) Did any of you see the problems Dallas had with Tony Romo out? Is Michael Vick the answer? That's unknown. But we do know that the backups the Cowboys now have can't get the job done. All the more reason for Jerry to roll the dice on this move.

Disclaimer: I detest what Michael Vick did. I do not support him in any way, shape or form. But if the league has a place for Leonard Little or Adam Jones, Michael Vick will be given another chance.

Lest anyone think he's going to quietly re-enter the league, check out your local fanboi board since this story has broken. The animal activists are going to make sure they're heard -- again and again -- wherever he lands.

I don't blame the activists at all ... or anyone else who loves animals and can't stand what Michael Vick did.

But again, if Leonard Little can play in the NFL, Vick will be back, too.

They should be heard. What he did is no less deplorable.

Two or three years is a long time in the NFL, to say nothing of what kind of playing shape he's in.

Were was the PETA crowd protesting Little's return ... oh, that's right ... to them, animals count more than people.

Vick needs a debt counselor before he does anything else.

That's just dumb, hondo.
You going to rip MADD for not picketing Vick?

Consider the source.

I"ve got the solution. When Vick gets out of prison, the first thing he should do is tape a series of PSAs decrying dogfighting. He should announce that if signed by another NFL team, he'll donate a percentage of his bonus to PETA and/or other charities. In return, PETA should urge its supporters to chill out when Vick joins his new team.
Sounds like a fair compromise to me.

The hell with that.

People have had enough of maladjusted social misfits engaging in reprehensible disgusting behavior, then saying "gee I'm sorry" (more accurately, "gee I'm sorry I got caught") and expecting the slate to be wiped clean.

What society needs is for there to be dramatic social consequences, some of them irrevocable, for engaging in reprehensible behavior.

That carries the message, "if you're smart, you won't do this ****. Ever."

And PETA should absolutely stampede the gates with tens of thousands of picketers, all carrying signs of bloody wounded dogs, when and if Vick ever gets signed.

And yes, it's a ******* travesty Leonard Little is playing in the league. He should be in the ****ing slammer for life.

The Raiders will get Vick before Dallas does.

yeah, that's true

but i do think Vick's crime - which horrible and disgusting - should be kept in perspective

he didn't harm people, and i think that's important to remember

and i love dogs and the whole sickens me, but if a murderer like leonard little can be allowed back in the league, there's certainly room for vick.

i actually think his prison time was excessive if you compare it to people whose crimes were far, far worse

He's never going to get a chance, and he's never going to be allowed to serve his sentence and then get on with his life.

Because the PETA folks are more vicious and more radical than any human-rights group on Earth.

Exactly right. Little is a disgrace. The man got another DUI after he had killed a woman while driving drunk. How the hell do you ever drink and drive after doing something like that?
