Except he got pulled with two outs in the sixth. He's thrown more than 100 pitches.

No-hitter still alive, tho.

Prior: 5 2/3 hitless
Cubs' pen: 2/3 hitless

Well, their relievers kept it longer than I thought they would.

As fast as Cedeno and Pierre are, I think one of them should have made that play. But they are Cubs.

And they're very good at it.

So if the game ended with no hits, would papers play it as a no-hitter? Because it's not counted anymore.

They played it that way when the Astros did it to the Yankees a couple of years ago. Houston used something like four or five pitchers that night.

the victimized team is no-hitted. but no one gets credit for pitching a no-no, right?

Correct.

The Cubs haven't thrown a no-hitter since 1972 and haven't been no-hit since Koufax did it in 1966.

The papers in Pittsburgh treated it like one when Francisco Cordova and Ricardo Rincon combined to no-hit the Astros in '97. I was in the stands for that one. Actually had a decent crowd because it was a fireworks night.

Not only is Prior not getting a chance to throw a no-hitter but they're going to lose the game too.

I believe the Post-Gazette headline was ASTRONAUGHT

Right. It still goes down as a no-hitter, but no one pitcher can take credit for it.

There have been nine combined no-hitters in history. How many can y'all name (no cheating)?

I'll start you off with the first one: Babe Ruth and Ernie Shore, 6/23/1917 (I already looked this **** up, so I discount myself.)

There was the one a couple of years ago when six Astros pitchers held the Yankees hitless.

There was one in the 70s where three or four A's pitchers combined for a no-hitter. I remember that because I think that was in September and the A's pretty much had the division clinched. I think it was Paul Lindblad who finished that one.

Baltimore had a no-hitter where two pitchers combined for a no hitter but they gave up at least two runs and might have lost the game... there were some walks and errors involved.

Some Pirates in the mid-90s??

July 1, 1990: Yankees Andy Hawkins throws the season's 6th no-hitter, but still loses 4–0 to the White Sox. With two out in the bottom of the 8th, New York's Mike Blowers misplays Sosa's routine grounder for an error, and Hawkins walks two to load the bases. Outfielders Jim Leyritz and Jesse Barfield drop back-to-back fly balls to allow all four runs to score. Barfield loses Ivan Calderon's fly ball in the sun and the ball bounces off his mitt. Ken Johnson in 1964 was the last pitcher to lose a no-hitter

Meanwhile, taking a quick look at Chicago's other team... What the hell has happened to Mark Buehrle?

Kent Mercker! How could I forget? Buck, when are we going to get the answers?? ;D
