Sorry to bother you folks, but I wonder if you might be able to impart some wisdom.

I recently applied for a gig. It's all been via e-mail so far (the paper is overseas), and they've just now asked the hypothetical minimum salary requirement/when can you start questions.

Is there an artful way I can still go the "negotiable" route and avoid locking myself in at an unreasonable salary? This is a rare opportunity, so I don't want to balls things up over money.

If the paper you're applying for is in Bari, I have two bits of wisdom to impart ...

1) Don't let them pay you in Lira.

2) Be careful along the southern coast when your swimming. My ex and I got almost all our stuff stolen from our car (luckily not the passports).
When I walked up to the car after about 10 minutes in the water, there was a guy sitting right next to it.
I motioned that someone had stolen my stuff, and he shrugged his shoulders.
Another guy came over and said, "Yes, I saw two guys pull up in a white Punto. One guy was wearing beige pants. They walked to you car, broke the lock and took the things inside."
So I said, "Thanks for stopping them."
The cops were even less help.
We left for Montenegro that night.

3) My familiarity with QuirkExpress (sic) operating system
4) My resume (which would be the third copy I've sent them)

How many more red flags do you need? By this point you might as well have some fun with it...throw out an astronomical salary (with an up-front amount for moving expenses) and see where it goes. Probably not far, but wtf.
