How can anybody work for a Gannett rag without going insane, truly insane? If you are an editor or a manager or whatever Gannett-speak calls a leader, how can you live with yourself? You can't possibly believe in what you are doing. Anybody with a journalism background (and a brain, even one fried from working in journalism the past 10 years) knows everything Gannett implements is ridiculous.

And if you are a reporter or copy editor, you must have no hair from pulling it all out over the years. I know you got to pay the bills, but how can anybody work for Gannett?

Your last line sums up the reason. Bills. Because if it wasn't for that, I'd wish every Gannettoid would tell the company to take its useless buzzwords and shove them.

And I worked at a Gannett paper that was quite respected by both readers and other journalists, even in spite of corporate.

The Star also just lost Phil B. Wilson to Scout.com as its new Pacers & Colts publisher.

It won't fold, but Indy readers will be getting USA Today with a few inserts on local news.

Most of these local gigs with TV and radio stations don't have great security, especially if they paid Kravitz anything close to what he was getting at The Star. Maybe he's taken pay cuts over the years, but I remember when they lured him from the Rocky Mountain News. Word was they paid him well to make the move, which makes sense.

Yes, Crawford and Bozich left for TV, and I haven't read either since. Says more about me and my habits, I suppose. I don't hunt and peck for TV websites. But I don't read ESPN's NFL guys either. I trust the hometown newspapers to get it right and explain why.

Back to Indy...would LOVE to see the total years of institutional knowledge that has left that place in the past 5 years. Has to be staggering.
