Is he the best receiver in the NFL? After watching him tonight, especially without Boldin along his side, he gets my vote.

Yes, Fitz is that good. And not making up much of a game plan to account for him isn't good for opponents of the Cardinals.

Fitzgerald is arguably not even the best receiver on his team. Smith is far better. Better hands, better speed, but far worse quarterback. I'd take Calvin Johnson over Fitz as well. Not saying he isn't outstanding, but he's not the best.

You think Fitzgerald, with ****ty QBs throwing to him and no one on the other side to draw defenses away, would have put up the numbers Calvin Johnson did this year? Maybe, maybe not. I got Fitzgerald and Johnson 1-2, but I'm not sure it should be in that order. As I said before, I think Johnson's year — in which he tied for the league lead in TDs and put up roughly 1,300 yards on one of the worst teams in NFL history — has been criminally undervalued.

Fitzgerald 1431 yards, 12 TDs, 14.9 ypc
Smith (14g) 1421 yards, 6 TDs, 18.2 ypc

Johnson and Smith do it without a viable receiver to keep teams from doubling them. I'd take any of the three, to be honest, but to annoint Fitzgerald the best, or at all better than the other two, is a bit premature.

And Simon, Moss isn't even in the conversation anymore. Without a top-notch QB, he's pretty much sucked for several years.

Having Reggie Ball as your college QB is valuable training for that sort of thing.

Moss caught 98 passes for 1,493 yards and nine touchdowns in 2007, so that last clause isn't exactly accurate. He is no longer up there with Fitzgerald, Smith and Johnson, but his '07 didn't suck.
