So I ask you, sports journalists, is there something wrong with the Jets organization? Is it coincidence that the same organization would have this many scandals going on so close in time? Is there a larger story about Jets ownership/management that needs to be told? I'm really not familiar at all with the people who run the organization, but the Tripgate story, and some of the Dolphins' reactions to it, makes me think there's something seriously wrong with this organization.

Two of your four are Favre dramas more than Jets problems. And the video thing wouldn't be anywhere near as big a deal if it was with, say, Jack Del Rio in Jacksonville.

It's a weird team, but the New York and national media also are in a feeding frenzy with all things J-E-T-S.

I'm not sure it is all coincidence. They have shown they really don't care if a guy has issues off the field. I'm not criticizing, but when you deal for guys like Santonio Holmes, it just demonstrates something about the team's approach.

I'm really not familiar at all with the people who run the organization, but the Tripgate story, and some of the Dolphins' reactions to it, makes me think there's something seriously wrong with this organization.

There's no leadership within the organization. After wild and crazy and emotional (and fraudulent) Herm Edwards cratered, Woody Johnson looked north, decided he wanted to emulate the Patriots and hired the anti-Herm Mangini, who had all of Belichick's personality and none of his cache.

As much as I don't really like the guy, Mangini actually did OK there--one really good year to start (from 4-12 to 10-6 and the playoffs), a terrible, injury-riddled second year (4-12) and a third year that started out great but ended up lousy once Favre stopped caring (9-7). Certainly, he deserved a fourth year, and had, I believe, at least two more years on his deal. But Woody fired Mangini, b/c he had a terrible personality and was a king Debbie Downer, even though he was a king Debbie Downer with a terrible personality (at least publicly) from day one, and replaced him with Rex Ryan, who was the anti-Mangini, who in turn had been the anti-Herm, who in turn had been the anti-Al Groh (oh yeah, we didn't even mention that).

Now, instead of a guy who won't even confirm the color of the sky, the Jets have a coach who rambles and prattles on and on and on about anything and everything. They star in Hard Knocks, which is about the least Patriot thing I can imagine. They go for splashy names and outsized personalities, another anti-Patriot thing. And they seem to revel in it. At least until Rex has a bad year or two, in which case, Woody will look for the next different thing.

I don't think you can underestimate Woody's own personality here, either. He is, to be charitable, having a midlife crisis of some sort, shacking up with and knocking up a woman half his age. He wants to be one of the guys, and either implicitly or explicitly, that trickles down to how the rest of the team behaves.

I do find it odd that stuff seems to happen in Florida and New York that just doesn't seem to happen elsewhere (or maybe people elsewhere don't think it's worth a story and/or a lawsuit).

the story begging to be done is an expose' of woody johnson. HE was the motor driving the brainstorm to force favre on mangini/tannenbaum. woody fancies himself a star-making, attention-whoring, second-class citizen of n.y./n.j. football so eager to capture back-page headlines and to sell psl's he has sold what soul he has left to the likes of favre, sexy rexy, santonio holmes, braylon edwards, antonio cromartie, etc., to overtake the hated GIANTS.

stay classy, woody. my theory: johnson has never recovered from belichick running away from succeeding parcells as HC of the NYJ in '99 and has decided to cleanse the bitter taste of belichick's subsequent NFL dominance to try to win at any cost.

I'm no Mangini fan, but firing him was nonsensical.
When the team still had a playoff chance, he was stuck with a severely injured QB was would not and could not be benched because of the streak.
Terrible situation.
