I mean, if 30 for 30 is doing a documentary on June 17, 1994 . . .

(can a thread like this NOT be inspired by ESPN?)

1994 had: The start of the first stateside World Cup (with opening ceremonies featuring Diana Ross!)

2010 has: Nebraska and Colorado leaving the Big 12, and USC getting lain low by NCAA sanctions.

1994 had: The NBA Finals, a long series derailed by thuggery on the court.

2010 has: The NBA Finals, a long series derailed by thuggery on the court.

1994 had: The Rangers ending the Stanley Cup drought.

2010 has: The Blackhawks ending the Stanley Cup drought.

Off the field:

1994 had: OJ.

2010 has: Abby Sunderland, possibly lost at sea.

Re: Is this the most interesting sports day EVER?!?!?!!?!

Only if the Yankees and Red Sox are playing each other tonight...

Re: Is this the most interesting sports day EVER?!?!?!!?!

Only if Strasburg is pitching.

It may be be the most interesting sports day with so few sporting events actually going on.

Re: Is this the most interesting sports day EVER?!?!?!!?!

Abby is not a sport.

Do you have a typo and mean June 10th?

The Rangers didn't end the drought on the OJ day, fwiw.

Yes, I know.

I posted this right after ESPN followed a commercial about that 30 for 30 (which included Rangers parade footage) with two college football analysts trumpeting this as the most eventful day ever.

I log on to SportsJournalists.com and a WWL teaser broke out ...

Re: Is this the most interesting sports day EVER?!?!?!!?!

Well, there were the opening ceremonies for the World Cup in South Africa just on. So, there is that parallel as well.

Piotr, are you looking into the future?

ESPN is doing a documentary about June 17, 1994 because it was such an eventful day.

I am putting forth the notion that this, today, June 10, 2010, is a very interesting sports day.

Re: Is this the most interesting sports day EVER?!?!?!!?!

I don't know. "Interesting" is a pretty high bar.

Can we compromise on "unsettling" or "unusual."

I would go with "screwy."

Seconded.

I'd put the conference shakeups and USC's sanctions in separate categories. Both are huge enough stories to merit it.

Cone's perfect game and Van de Velde's collapse were on the same day as well.

I'm sure there are others, but I remember the British Open getting the second slot on SC that day.

All we need now is a perfect game in the major (preferably on the West Coast) and the NBA Finals game to go at least 3 overtimes.

94 still wins just because of the OJ factor. The OJ Bronco Chase/NBA Finals night was the weirdest channel changing TV night I can ever remember.
