If you're Canadian and like music ...

Herky_Jerky, thanks for the link.

I am surprised that InFlight Safety did not get a mention because they have been the "national buzz".

Feist and Arcade Fire are in a league of their own.

If anyone has not gotten Neil Young's Chrome Dreams, you have to get it. I got an advance copy and it is one fantastic listen. Young is one of the best exports Canada has to offer.

Among the bands listed that are good are Wolf Parade, New Pornographers (Use It is the theme to CBC's the Hour with George what's his name... :P), Patrick Watson (won Juno award for best new artist of the year and he sounds like Coldplay, so fans of Coldplay should get his debut CD), Stars, Weakerthans, Jenn Grant (local artist who you have to see live...I did during Junos and ECMA's), Julie Doiron, Two Hours Traffic and Wintersleep (I am jonesing to hear Danse Macabre right now).

There are some bands that I have not heard of before, so I am going to check them out.

What the hell does Canuckistan know about music? Aside from their National Anthem, which is superior to ours, it's just a musical confluence of fail. :D

Bite me, *****. Hard. You've never heard of Triumph, Honeymoon Suite and Platinum Blonde?

I've heard of Platinum Blonde. But do they count? Two of their members are ex-pats from the Isles.

Still trying to find that slow dance song of Triumph's Hold On. Brings back so many memories.

I had the hots for Johnny Dee when Honeymoon Suite had their hay day in the eighties (thank god for the creation of videos). Bad Attitude, Feel It Again, Stay in the Light, New Girl Now and Burning in Love were my favourite Honeymoon Suite tunes.

How about Haywire? Dance Desire was a track they played at school dances so much.

I don't know, Doc. I always thought Mark Holmes's Brit accent was as phony as the bulge in his spandex on the cover of their first album. (I once drunkenly asked him if he had change for a buck.)

Saw Haywire open up for Kim Mitchell once at the Civic in Oshawa. "Bad Bad Boys" was another pseudo-hit for those guys (who, as I recall, were from PEI).

Aye, they were from PEI. And the father of keyboardist Dave Rashad was a Saputo distributor. He was the main supplier for my uncle's pizzeria in Ch'town.

Cutting Crew? Chalk Circle? THE SPOONS!

That's a great line, Huggy. :D

And, Flasher, can you name a band that has any significance, post-1986?

What about Frozen Ghost?

And yes, I am a Blue Rodeo fan too.

Try was another ballad they played constantly at dances.

Cutting Crew wasn't Canadian, was it? The Spoons, featuring the delectable Sandy Horne, played my high school once. Blue Peter (who did the awesome "Radio Silence") and The Dice were two other great Toronto bands of that era.

Tragically Hip. :P But they have no significance past 1996.

And you're right ... Cutting Crew was British. Sorry ...

How about ...

Toronto? Sheriff? THE HEADPINS!

For current significance, however, I give you that bag of crap, Nickelback.

How about solo artists Nelly Furtado and Alanis? I'd give you Barenaked Ladies but I find them moderately embarrassing, too ...
