Never thought I would say this but I do miss the big game feel and energy that
Brent Musburger brought to big college games.

Chris Fowler just does not have the gravitas to make it work.

Miss Keith Jackson more on the day of his 86th birthday but would settle for
Brent and all his quirks.

Re: I Miss Brett

Brett from Match Game or Brent from Billings?

Re: I Miss Brett

You are looking live, at Charles Nelson Reilly!

It wasn't just Brent, he had a great dynamic with "Herbie" that oddly enough Fowler just doesn't have. Fowler is good, but vanilla. I think part of the deal with younger announcers, is that they didn't spend time in radio. I can't think of a big time call from Tirico either.

CBS has Lundquist
NBC has Michaels
Even Joe Buck at Fox has had a few good calls. And Gus Johnson.

On this line, I will tune into the Sunday night game that Al Michaels is calling -- just because it's Al. Enjoy his work, his seriousness about the job but not necessarily about the call during the whole game.

As odd as the Eminem / Brent gathering was last year, Fowler would have
seemed wildly out of place in same circumstance.

It's amazing the calls Al has had. He could have retired after "Do You Believe In Miracles? Yes!" but throw in "He did WHAT?!!" "We're having an Earthquake!" The Denkinger play, Dave Henderson's homer of Donnie Moore, traded for a cartoon character...

As for the opening of FSU/ND.....Maroon 5? Seriously?

Speaking of Brett Somers and football fellas, she wants Billick to line up under her center.

I like Fowler as a studio host but he sucks at play by play

Yup - Fowler brings no energy or excitement to play by play

Vern and Gary Danielson are now the top big game team

The thing with Brent was, when he was thrown into something like that where he was out of his element, it was almost as much fun as the game itself.

It was like having your father interview Jack White.

It happened twice to poor Brent. First when CBS dumped him and Nantz replaced him on college basketball, and then Fowler. Both Nantz and Fowler are really good at many things (I probably like Nantz more than others), but they don't have the...whatever it is Brent has that makes him great on the big games. They're too normal.

BTW this is a great effin game despite Fowler:s lack of big game ability

I'm also pretty sure CBS and ESPN have never had to fire up their PR department in response to something said during a broadcast by Nantz or Fowler.

Michaels was on Bill Simmons' podcast a couple of years ago, and they spent a solid hour just talking about all the big moments Michaels has been a part of. It seemed like they barely scratched the surface. He's like the sports broadcaster version of Forrest Gump.

I was going to say the same thing. Fowler wouldn't work as well, because he wouldn't be SO out of place. He would just be boring. I also like him as a host, but he plays it all a little too straight.

Fowler is the epitome of ESPN -- stilted, robotic, corporate, bland, vanilla, don't make waves to **** off the PR machine.

Burnt Hamburger brought the pizzazz. Keith Jackson was epic. 20 years ago was Colorado-Michigan and the replays of his call ... I never heard him more excited and he was EPIC on that call. EPIC. If Whoa-Nellie was on you tuned in. If Uncle Al is one your game, you tune in.

Fowler brings nothing for me. Buttoned up. Bland. Meh.

Best game of season and Fowler sounded like he was calling Bowling Green vs
Ball St.
