The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, a seven-day-a-week newspaper based in Tupelo, is seeking a high school sports specialist to join our team.
We have 50-plus high school programs within our circulation footprint, with a core coverage focus on two dozen schools. The successful applicant will be a self-starter, well-organized and fluent in using social media in a sports news context.
Responsibilities will include reporting and game coverage, but also coordination of coverage with our partner weekly papers.
Basic desk skills - we’re planning a transition from Quark to InDesign – would be a plus.
Daily newspaper experience preferred, but will consider the right candidate with strong college experience.
Applicants are invited to send resumes and 3-5 clips to sports editor John Pitts at [email protected]
Please, no phone calls.

Were I not tied down these days, I wouldn't mind putting the band back together.

I can vouch for the excellence of this shop. Good people up there and John is a great one to learn from. Highly recommended opportunity.
