Has anyone here backed up iTunes successfully?

I just back up the music files to an external hard drive. You don't need to back up the program - just back up the mp3s.

I move the stuff I already have into playlists and burn each playlist (as data) onto DVDs. I have about 3,500-4,000 songs and it took four DVDs, if I remember correctly.

Once that is done, you can set up a smart playlist that will add any files you add from that point forward. So when that playlist gets large enough to fill a DVD, I burn another backup disc.

Maybe there's an easier way. Your mileage may vary.

I just back up the music files to an external hard drive. You don't need to back up the program - just back up the mp3s.

Same here. Mine's set to do it automatically on the first of each month.

The only thing I have to add is to do this as quickly as possible. My computer was stolen about 4 months ago and I lost about 1500 songs because I hadn't backed them up yet.

Neal Peart is a great drummer, but I'm guessing you are all too old to know the band TOOL. The drummer, Danny Carey is the best in the business, no doubt. Other than that, Peart is second, Chad Sexton from 311 would be next and then Lars. Def Lep drummer has to be considered just because of the obstacle.

8k? I don't think that would hold a word doc. Maybe 8 GB?

USB drives are ok, but constant heavier use weakens them, so I would recommend the external hard drive (that's what I've got going on.

Also, it would be smart to have the backup drive stored off-site in case of disaster. It's something I've been meaning to do, but haven't got around to.

All you need to back up are personal photos/videos, documents and music/movies. The rest of it is replaceable.
