Arlo Guthrie's not dead. He recently retired from touring. His father, Woody Guthrie, died far too young of Huntington's disease.

Yes, the events in the song actually happened, but it was the day after Thanksgiving 1965 in the Berkshires, Massachusetts. There is an Alice, and she had multiple restaurants. "Officer Obie" died in 1994. No clue about the father-rapers on the Group W bench.

Adam Carolla has a bit called "Rich Man, Poor Man" in which he points out that a lot of the things very rich people do and have are simply fancier versions of things very poor people do.
