HAPPY COVID-19 HOLIDAYS thread

Almost slapped myself the other day, wishing my mechanic Happy Holidays (but in fairness, I truly hope not to see him again this year).
Curious how your plans for the next six weeks are being changed due to Coronavirus. What are you doing "instead of" - what are you really going to miss?

Heard turkey farmers are taking it in the shorts because people aren't interested in turkeys that feed more than six.

Seems like they looked at an Oregon license plate and said, "Go find a tree that looks like that." Pretty sickly-looking tree.

I'm not visiting either my mom or the Dads because of COVID.

Usually, I don't visit any of them because I can't afford it.

My roommate's ex is looking to cook Thanksgiving dinner for us in the house.

My mom's immunocompromised and both where I live and where she lives are outbreaking right now, so the family is staying put right where they are. I have a couple friends who are in my bubble who are getting together for a small Thanksgiving (they work retail so obviously travel is out for them around Thanksgiving). Will probably go home to my parents' for Christmas because that's a fairly easy holiday to stay in and avoid crowds.

My family always does a huge Christmas Eve oyster roast. I'm talking 100+ people with 5-6 bushels of oysters.
Obviously that ain't happenin'.
I'm hoping for immediate family and some oysters.

We usually host my wife's side of the family for gift exchange and lunch sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we're opting out of that this year, which is probably a good thing because our teenage daughter has become politically and socially-justice aware in the past year, and most of that side of the family holds views that are pretty opposite of ours. I could picture it getting ugly.

And my side of the family usually meets for dinner at a local restaurant, and we're skipping that because of the Covids, and also the fact that my sister married a racist a$$hole and I don't want to deal with him.

So it's our little family doing our own thing this year. (Maybe a socially-distanced thing with one other family, but not sure yet.)

I can't even talk about it right now. On top of all the other stuff and canceled visits and missing my grandkids, my brother starts chemo tomorrow. He's pretty upbeat, I'm pretty worried.

We cancelled Thanksgiving plans, and though we typically travel over Christmas, we are staying put by ourselves this year. I don't think we've ever done that. So. I'm over compensating by putting up a s*** ton of Christmas trees.

I am putting up at least three trees. That said I don't really give a damn about any of it. It's all gone - the entire year - and I can't put a happy bow on it.

Mod, will hold a thought for your brother. He will be in capable hands.

We're not going south to see my Mom, been a year since she's seen the grandkids and it's driving her crazy. I told her that when this is all over, presumably next summer, she's getting them for a month-long visit.

Unfortunately, Thanksgiving is going to be another day this year. I *might* go see my sister and her family. The weather is supposed to be nice and we can go outdoors.

Thanksgiving has been the hardest since I lost my sister and her family in 2017 because we would always have it at their place in Fort Collins. Lots of food, and fun times. Obviously hasn't been the same since we lost them but to possibly not be with any family this year, well, it f***ing blows.

I usually make two trips home to see family and friends each year. I’ll be 0-for-2 in 2020. Won’t see many people I love for a long time. No different than millions of others, but still sucks.

I hope to make a trip home for an annual charity event next summer. That’ll be 18 months without a visit.

I really hope these vaccines get us out of this.

This is going to be my first Thanksgiving in my own apartment, and not away with family, since I was born. Maybe I'll drive the hour or so to yell at my mom from the end of her driveway. Or I could cover Thanksgiving football, since a surprising number of local high school teams are trying to extend their seasons as long as possible.

I haven't even seriously thought about trying to host a birthday dinner. I might have to settle for taking a vacation day.

I will say this about being away from family during the holidays - the first time I did it, it was different. Kinda nice to spend Thanksgiving in my gym shorts and a t-shirt and not get dressed up, watch a ton of football and then call the folks and hear all the chaos in the background. I don't know the last time I experienced a Thanksgiving with all of my family together, including aunts and uncles. I'd love for it to happen again.
