Did anyone else find it interesting that the rock-ribbed conservative NFL let John Fogerty play Fortunate Son? I know he's leading the United Way campaign, but I'm just surprised they let him play a Vietnam-era antiwar song like Fortunate Son. And he clearly played that one with more passion than any of the other songs in the medley.

The NFL does know that black people sing right? The league HAS heard of that little label up the street ... Motown ... right?

Wasn't there a big dustup a few months back at the Super Bowl about Motown having no representation at SBXL? And today, we get a 12-year-old white country-singin' chick performing the anthem and John "Born on the Mother****ing Bayou" Fogerty at halftime?

Did the Dallas and Detroit musical acts switch planes by mistake?

Played it before the SB in Jacksonville a few years ago, and it did get sold for a commercial a few years back. Of course, there's more than a little relevance to it these days.
I agree with mb, however, in that there are some locally grown musical acts in Detroit that might have played.

The big question about John Fogarty -- who I think has had a great career -- was this: Did he hit a single note on-key during his entire halftime performance?

It was actually a musical tribute to the William Clay Ford Family. ;)

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, dont they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah

It aint me, it aint me, I aint no millionaire's son, no.
It aint me, it aint me; I aint no fortunate one, no.

Don't forget it being on the Forrest Gump soundtrack. Fogerty sold out ages ago.

Did Fogarty even own the rights to the song when Forrest Gump came out?

Not likely.

Except Berry Gordy and Motown abandoned Detroit for L.A. more than 35 years ago.

Hey, whatever happened to Jack Scott? Now there's a Detroit guy who could sing -- even if he was really from Windsor.

Fogerty sounded terrible. This did seem quite the entertainment reach. and the tuneless singing only added to the out-of-it idea.

Why would Fogarty not have owned the rghts to Fortunate Son when Forrest Gump (one of the most OVERRATED movies off all time) came out?

Was listening to the game on the net. Could hear it behind the announcers.

For many years Fantasy Records, not CCR, owned the publishing rights. There was an extended legal battle and Fogarty got them back, but I'm not certain of the timing, i.e. before Forrest Gump or after.

As an offshoot, Fogarty was once charged with plagarizing himself, for writing a song that he owned the rights to which Saul Zantz, the owner of Fantasy records, claimed was a riopoff of a CCR song he owned the rights to. A trial ensued and Fogarty was found not guilty.

Why oh why does the NFL subject us to this **** every Thanksgiving, complete with "staged" crowds going "crazy?"

I don't care if it's lefty Fogerty or righty Toby Keith. This crap sucks.

"Vanz Can't Dance, but he'll steal your money. Watch him or he'll rob you blind."

Song was about a con artist pig, said to be modeled after Zantz.

It's horrible, but it's better than those parades my wife and daughter insisted on watching today. I had to watch the early game on the bedroom TV for cryin' out loud. The bands are OK, but having the float stop and Barry Manilow lipsynch some song is ridiculous.

Setting the bar pretty low there, OTD.

Why, throwing your back out is better than diarrhea. Doesn't make throwing your back out fun! :D
