It could and should have been executed better, but that's on the general staff that was making plans. With Trump committing us to a date certain withdrawal it was always going to be a cluster getting out clean.

With a little foresight they could have evacuated the friendly Afghans much earlier and then staged the final evacuation from Bagram, which was much more secure. Instead they abandoned Bagram first and had to bail out of Kabul with Afghans hanging from the aircraft a la the fall of Saigon.

If all the people you need to evacuate are in Kabul, and it’s 45 minutes or so away from Bagram, how do you secure the land route between the two?

I fault our execution only in that we didn't realize how fast Afghanistan was collapsing and didn't react fast enough. Much of the poor public image could've been mitigated with a faster exit when Ghazni and Kunduz fell. It was all she wrote when that happened.

All of this “Biden botched the Afghanistan withdraw” goes no deeper than, “Sweet! Americans died and we can blame the other party!”

It’s disgusting.

The U.S. has a long and ****ty history when it comes to Haiti, so it's no more his fault than any previous administration (although Bill Clinton's actions over the past decade, long after he was actually president, might have contributed to the current crisis).
Still, after seeing the way Biden's administration handled the Afghanistan exit and the current Gaza conflict, you'll forgive me if I don't express my undying faith in his ability to navigate this one without somehow making it worse.

The entire developed world has a pretty ****ty history when it comes to Haiti, given how many of their issues were prompted by their having the temerity to revolt against slavery in the 18th century, and those colonial powers wrecking their economy for doing so.
