EASTCHESTER - On his way home from winning the World Series, Yankees Manager Joe Girardi stopped to help a woman who had lost control of her car on the Cross County Parkway and crashed into a wall.

"The guy wins the World Series, what does he do? He stops to help," said Westchester County police officer Kathleen Cristiano, who was among the first to arrive at the accident scene. "It was totally surreal."

The driver was stunned by the accident, but otherwise uninjured, police said.

"The guy wins the World Series, what does he do? He stops to help," said Yankees announcer, Suzyn Waldman, who had just finished another headache-inducing mind-numbing year behind the microphone.

The driver was stunned by the accident, but otherwise uninjured, police said.

**** like this numbs my ability to wish ill will upon him.

What wasn't mentioned in the story was that he kicked a puppy upon leaving the scene.

He was also heard muttering "Nick Punto likes sheep."

He won a footrace to the scene with Tim Tebow.

Screw that guy!

He probably learned from A-Rod and Jeter and only did it because he knew he'd get mentioned. [/byh]

Rumor has it that Brook Jacoby was driving the tow truck to pick up the motorist.

Got it now. ;)

Brook's too busy not getting interviewed for other hitting coach jobs and being stuck in Cincinnati. :(

What the story doesn't say is that he flipped thru his binder for 20 minutes to find out who matched up best in Good Samaritan vs. injured drivers matchups, saw David Robertson pull up to the woman, waved him away, ignored Chad Gaudin begging to do anything at all and then called Alfredo Aceves and Damaso Marte to see if they could help out before he finally stepped in.

I keep here solely to see your response. I was not disappointed.

This is awesome, BYH. Maybe I respect you, afterall. I believe Posada visited the crash scene six times before Girardi came over, too.

Yet another example of the advantages of being a big market franchise. A small market manager would've been taking transit.

Other responses:

Charlie Manuel and Grady Little: Asked the woman to drive another exit or so
Joe Torre: Called Scott Proctor
Tony LaRussa: Woke up from his stupor and called a tow truck (too soon?)
Mike Scioscia: Completely ignored it, b/c he sucks :D :D :D

What about Gardenhire? Lectured her that the little things - like getting your oil changed every 3 months or 3,000 miles - can help prevent big disasters?

Gaudin was unavailable because he tripped on the curb and hit his head on a dumpster.

Girardi later explained that Gaudin hadn’t helped anyone in months and didn’t think it would be fair to bring him into such a pressure situation.
