Anyone interested in the position should give me a shout on private mail.

Just call it an NC-17 version of Clarissa Explains All, and Melissa Joan Hart's nowhere in the building.

I worked with a guy who came from Galveston. Biggest bull****ter, and eater of watermelon, of all time.

I would kill for that to be my epitaph.

P.S. I've always had a thing for Galveston, at least since I read Isaac's Storm and went down there to see the buildings that survived. I also pushed back a bucket of beer that afternoon.

What this has to do with this job, I have no idea.

eater of watermelon... ???
Gee, Jones, along those same lines, I went there frequently as a kid.
Woo-Hoo!

Well, since people frequently ask about the area they might be working, anything you can add would be of value.

Not sure if dietary habits add all that much to the discussion, but good restaurants could make the deal.

Yes, eater of watermelon.

I got a postcard from Galveston about 6 months ago. Fantastic eye candy.

Never been there. Isn't it on the gulf?

Yes, it's an island 50 miles south of Houston that sits in the Gulf of Mexico

An island? Sounds like Catalina, about 26 miles from Long Beach.

Nothing like a hoops game at Avalon High on Catalina Island.

That may be the first time Catalina and Galveston have ever been compared. But yes, Galveston is surrounded completely by water.

The island and surrounding area was a madhouse when Hurricane Rita threatened just a month or so after the Katrina tragedy. People were lined up for days to evacuate and literally moving just a few miles. The heat was miserable and many cars and people were overheating. Rita turned a bit to the north and made landfall right at the Texas-Louisiana border and Galveston was spared the wrath of the Cat. 3.

I visited Galveston last year just before Independence Day and I enjoyed the city/island. Lots of old houses and buildings. The beach was freakin' packed for obvious reasons. It has all the sun and palm trees one could ask for. I actually went there to have lunch with a friend who was leaving the port on a cruise ship. From what I saw, it's a neat little place. But remember...hurricanes. I believe the storm of 1900 was one of the worst in history and tore Galveston up.

It wasn't just Galveston, my family lives in Conroe maybe 30 minutes north and they said the traffic was at a stand-still there and it had been that way for days, what a nightmare.

That's right, I was thinking of Spring, which is on the norhternmost side of Houston... :-[ VERY differnet places.
Very embarassed, I just remember as a kid sitting on the drive across Houston heading to the beach and time seemed to fly by until you hit traffic.
