A big fire in an apartment building in Germany killed 9, including five children. At least nine actually. But somehow a baby survived that was thrown out of a window. The first and second pictures in this gallery are amazing. It's not clear if they caught the kid below or if there was a net or what. In the second picture, it doesn't look like there's a protective cushion or anything so it seems someone might have caught him as he plummeted.

That little ****er had to have been caught. There's no way he'd survive that far a drop without being caught.

Caption under the second picture:

The baby was thrown from a fourth-floor window and was caught by an off-duty police officer who was in the neighborhood. It's not known whether the child's parents survived.

**** David Tyree, now there's a catch to be proud of.

No ****...

When you look at the long-angle pic of the baby, it appears the jump for adults (presumably into catch nets) wouldn't have been all that high.
Hopefully those hanging out the window were also able to get out.

And not to minimize - it was a hell of a distance to fall for the baby

I live about 60 miles from Ludwigshafen.
Some of the deaths, according to news reports here, were people living in interior apts. in that building.
I don't speak good German and would love to, if only to fully understand the 6-o'clock newscasts.

German news is reporting today that there might be a Neo-Nazi angle with all this.
Germans and Turks living in this nation often haven't been getting along and there's a possibility, or cause for investigation as to whether this fire was started as a hate measure against the largely Turkish populous who live in this particular building.
Scary, sad stuff.
The cops are on it and it's all over the radio and TV here.
NOTE: Lots of Germans don't have much good, either, to say about the large amount of Russian folks who've moved here through the past 40-50 years.

A friend among German media here say it's been a media ploy (by some group seeking to boost ratings) to create such a Neo-Nazi story.
And it ain't true, they say.
The Turkish president has pressured Frau Merkel to investigate and it should all come out in the wash that this was just a random incident of bad luck.
Bad wiring in an old building or something similar.
We'll see, I guess.
