Description:
Sports editor: Can you juggle? If you’re a pro at multitasking, we want to talk to you. Huckle Publications LLC, is looking for a full-time sports editor to lead our coverage for two area publications — The Faribault Daily News and Kenyon Leader. These aren’t your typical sports sections; we don’t rely on gamers. We write award-winning features and enterprise, and we tell great tales. We are looking for an editor who can provide top-notch designs, well-crafted stories and skilled leadership. The successful candidate will have leadership aptitude and a proven passion for both design and writing. The position will be based in Faribault. The two newspapers are part of a family-owned cluster of 16 publications, eight community Web sites and two regional magazines. All are aggressive, watchdog-oriented papers with newsrooms full of talent. Besides the Twin Cities, Faribault is within one hour of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Rochester and the Mayo Clinic, Mall of America, eight state parks and more than 100 recreational lakes and other top attractions. Benefits include health care insurance, vacation and 401k. If you’re up to the challenge, send us a letter that talks about your style of leadership, what others who’ve worked for you think about you and what your vision is for a rocking sports section. Let the letter reflect your writing style. Send it, your resume, three clips and no more than five designed pages to Jaci Smith, Regional Editor, Faribault Daily News, 514 Central Ave., Faribault, MN 55021. E-mail it to [email protected]

They currently have two staffers, although I don't know if both are full time or not.

Wow, the Web site blew my socks off with the great tales. Especially since the paper is still hyping Election 2008 under the news section, as well as last year's county fair.

Not sure Ace wants to move here - does it increase his chances for Cleveland?

Giving this a bump, as still open. Paper is pretty damn good for its size. full color front and inside. 2-3 pages per day. Focus is, not surprisingly, on preps, but close enough to Twin Cities to dabble in stuff as time/space allows.

Managing Ed is a really good, down-to-earth person. They have more classifieds than some papers twice their circulation, so they are making money. No Monday edition, so you get Sundays off.

Salary range is more than some dailies twice their size.

They changed the language - no longer looking for an "ace." At least they didn't dumb it down to "seeking a wordsmith," as one sports job listing claimed last year.

I know they had at least one candidate interview. Surprised its still open.

Is "top notch" any better?

Salary could be better than a number of other jobs posted on the board, although it depends on the candidate's experience level. PM me for details.

Anyone know if this position has been filled yet?

The Minnesota Newspaper Association Web site is still advertising the position.
