This was an eerie show on PBS a couple of weeks ago. American Experience, almost two hours long.

The Eugenics Crusade | American Experience

Video linked in the above site should be available through 14 NOV 2018. After that, access probably requires their Passport Membership.

I knew little about the specifics of this movement. Very interesting chunk of US History from the early 20th Century that I knew little about.

And this story is predominately US History, NOT Germany, who of course ran off with a lot of this in very extreme fashion. But this American history is pretty negative when you think of it. Our ideals, human rights, etc.

If you’ve watched this, or after you watch the above, I’m interested in your thoughts on this sordid chapter.

(Please leave 21st Century politics out of the discussion. There’s a thread for that. Thank you.)

The Eugenics thing was fascinating -- and scary

I remember going to the cereal museum in Battle Creek when I was a teenager. He was against good-tasting food, sex and drinking. I didn't even need to know his more monstrous beliefs to decide I didn't like him.

And C.W. Post, after two mental breakdowns, went to the Battle Creek Sanitarium and then decided to start his own breakfast products company.

So two nutcases are responsible for my insatiable desire for Frosted Mini Wheats.

I think I read one time that Kellogg developed Corn Flakes to suppress (somehow) sexual desires. I don't eat Corn Flakes.
