NEWS EDITOR, Studio Production • Bristol, CT
Become a strong voice and influence for our newsgathering, making and packaging process. This is an outstanding opportunity to influence the development of engaging concepts and content, particularly by leveraging your sports knowledge, and to ensure we deliver a consistent viewer/listener experience while striving to enhance ratings and market penetration.
The chosen professional will: generate story ideas, write stories, and coordinate/edit others’ writing; communicate effectively with third parties, including news and information sources; successfully coordinate resources to cover breaking news; and monitor the news product to maintain accuracy and compliance with established editorial policies/concepts. If you are hired at an executive level, you will also be expected to: exercise good editorial judgment in resolving issues or redirecting staff; identify market and industry trends; develop the less-than-obvious story; research, assemble and translate highly complex information; and devise processes to enhance staff and procedural efficiencies.
To qualify, you must have a degree in journalism or other relevant area, 5-10 years of experience in journalism and real-time production, and a recognizable ability to create compelling news stories. You must be developing mastery of sports reporting and news packaging upon a strong foundation of sports/sports history, and possess a good appreciation of current trends and audience tastes. The right candidate is also fluent in technology platforms—e.g. MS Outlook, SAP, ENPS, NCA, the Internet, and applications used for animation, video, graphics and editing. Demonstrated time management, planning, and organizational abilities; the flexibility to travel; and two years of supervisory experience are also required.
