More fun with the worldwide leader:

ESPN cut away during Dodgers-Mets to show footage of a very important arrival at Yankee Stadium.

Replete with the graphic saying "6:11 p.m. EST," so we know EXACTLY when it happened, a car was shown pulling up in front of a stadium entrance. Stepping out was . . . Joe Morgan.

Because, of course, there couldn't have been a game if ESPN's color analyst wasn't there.

Watching with the sound off, so I didn't know.

That excuses it somewhat, but geez, it's not like Phil Collins playing on both sides of the Atlantic for Live Aid.

To play Devil's advocate...

What else should ESPN have shown? They're scrolling the score of the earlier game across the bottom of the screen every couple of minutes and had shown highlights of it a few times earlier. There wasn't much else happening for them to do an update on.

Let's see him race the Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600 in the same day ...

Why couldn't he go to a phone booth and turn into Superman and just fly there without a police escort. ... Oh, yeah, there's not many phone booths anymore.

He left Shea at 5:30. Even with traffic, he'll get to Yankee stadium in time for first pitch nearly three hours later.
Somehow, I doubt he needs a 90-minute pre-game production meeting, judging by the wealth of insight he offers during a telecast.
If I'm a New York caught in traffic on the Triboro today, and I know Morgan is the reason for the police escort, I pull and 90-degree turn and get in the way, big time.

What else should they have shown? How about the game they were broadcasting. They don't really HAVE to update anything.
