What goes on at Minot Air Force Base must be a running joke in the Air Force nowadays as 17 officers lose their authority to launch missiles.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/may/8/air-force-strips-17-officers-power-launch/

The base also has had incidents where watch officers fell asleep on duty and a crew accidentally putting live nukes on a bomber.

Just think what NDJournalist could do with this story.

His former shop has the AP story up now.

Re: Don't turn your key!

“We are, in fact, in a crisis right now,” said the base commander, Lt. Col. Jay Fields, in an email obtained by The Associated Press.

No, you're not. Once the need is declared to launch the stupid things, we are already past the point of crisis, into completely ****ed mode --- and whether they are launched or not doesn't matter at that point.

Must have sucked being in Minot in the Cold War -- all the disadvantages of desolate small-town living, but unlike most small towns, you're a priority target so you're still going to get nuked the bejesus out of if the balloon ever went up.

Oh, it's all right. I've planned ahead. We're just three miles from a primary target. A millisecond of brilliant light, and we're vaporized. Much more fortunate than the millions who'll wander sightless through the smouldering aftermath. We'll be spared the horror of survival.

Minot sucks in winter. It's like Canada, only suckier.
