But that was covered. Only the No. 1 seeds are in white. I like it much more with the color jerseys.

Maybe so. But this is starting to prove my point again. Just saying the page has some merit, as I did, is not high enough praise. We have to come forth with glowing praise.
I just wonder what would happen if someone started a thread about articles, then insisted every comment be about how fabulous the articles are.

Not a fair comparison.
If someone went on every thread about an article and shredded, with no real basis behind it, just shredded writers in general...fair comparison.
That being said, I appreciated your first comment on it. And had your snide comment been made IN that post, I likely would have read right over it. But you having to come back in JUST to say it is what I didn't understand.

As I already said, I tend to just skip over Schneider's comments, partially because he's inane and partially because he's gone out of his way to violate forum rules.
Then I read it later and decided to give ol' Schneid a jab for his joke. I don't think that comment is all that terrible.
Back to the jerseys: Now we're back to what "looks cool" over accuracy. Maybe having a row of 8 white jerseys would be distracting. But it would be accurate. If the Strib wants to have only four white jerseys, that's fine. But placing that decision into some sort of bell jar that can't be opened, can't be touched and has to remain under glass is again an example of what's wrong with the "It looks good, so it has to be right" approach.

OK, here's the thing: I said I liked it like it is. Just because I said that doesn't mean you can't say you don't.
Your basic statement was that the jerseys were the wrong color, but it read like you didn't know why. I was trying to clarify.
If you don't like the jerseys, then say 'I think it's misleading' then move on. It's not like they colored jerseys in a game photo. It's a graphic illustration, it works for me. Period.

the section is for the entire tournament, not the first round
if it plays out as planned (yeah, i know, it never does, but...) all the other teams other than the 1s would wear their colored jerseys over the whites

I think it's fine the way it is, but it might be better with some changes.
Ultimately it fails anyway because it has absolutely no peg or specificity to this year's tournament other than a few of the teams in the field. Anyone could do this and post it on a Web site, but it wouldn't get the play it has here because it's not burned onto thousands of sheets from dead trees. I can guarantee that 99.99 percent of the readers are not hanging this page on the wall and marveling at it. They're turning to the inside for the capsules about the teams playing in the tournament.
When 75 percent of the page can be recycled and used year after year after year, it ain't that innovative. Sorry, eye candy worshipers. It's a newspaper, not a picture to frame.

And the competition to cover them can make UF vs. FSU look like an intramural flag football game. The papers here consistently produce some of the deepest, most dynamic sports sections in the country. The Sports Design Quick Course speakers will give you an inside look at how these departments work, and the techniques that make them so successful. Plus, the first 25 people to register get a pair of game-worn Shaq sneakers!*
You've probably seen him around these parts, and if I recall correctly he's also a member of the 2005 All-Newbie Team, but Chris Rukan of the Palm Beach Post is hosting this Society for News Design Quick Course.
Quick Courses are a great chance to meet and listen to speakers from papers across the country, and this one is even better because it's all about sports design. And what's better than spending a weekend in West Palm Beach and learning a little bit while you're there? That's enough to get me there, that's for sure.

Could you find us a page (or pages) that you think are good? Can be your own, can be someone else's. You don't have to find one right away, anytime from now to the end of April will work. Because I'm really curious to see what the right answer is, demonstrated visually.

The best way to deal with Dye
other than challenging him to a freestyle rap contest
is to just ignore his words
and realize that he's never going to change because he craves all of the personal attention that comes with all of his prickish contrariness
