Media General’s Consolidated Editing Center (CEC) in Richmond, Virginia, has an opening for a versatile, deadline-oriented sports copy editor who can also design a page in a pinch.

Our innovative new center has a broad footprint - with branches in Richmond and Tampa, Fla., we handle page design and editing for MG's three metro dailies: the Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Tampa Tribune and Winston-Salem Journal.

We are seeking a team player who can edit and design quickly and cleanly on deadline. You need to be a strong communicator who can balance overlapping assignments and deadlines, and experience with the CCI system is a plus. Several years of newspaper experience is preferred, but less will be accepted if you have excellent skills.

The CEC was not in place when I was there, but I can tell you the people who work there are good people. I can't/won't say anything about those above them. But really good folks on that editing crew.

IJAG, it's only 108 miles to Virginia Beach, and a few miles shorter depending upon where you go. Management at the T-D has been questioned but name a place where management hasn't been questioned? Staffers are a good mix of veterans and some not too veteran.

ANYWAY, it's a pretty good job in a pretty good town.

Richmond as a town is fantastic. Couple really cool parts of town, and it's within a day's drive of a ton of stuff. I miss it.

Richmond's a great great town. Great restaurants, museums, art/music scene, decent climate, easy drive to D.C. and the beaches. Hard to argue against it.

Anyone who has ever sat on I-95 for any stretch of time, especially between Springfield and Richmond, would disagree with this statement.

Definitely is an easy drive to Raleigh, though.

In fairness, it's not Richmond's fault that D.C. completely screws up all traffic within a 50-mile radius. It's actually easier to get to D.C. from Richmond than just about any of the other surrounding areas of similar distance.

It's convenient to DC, let's put it that way. I basically live next to the train station, so that's a viable option. Even with traffic, though, it might be a quicker drive to DC than Raleigh. If you can get on the HOV lanes or at the very least avoid drama in PW County, you're in good shape.

DC to Richmond and Richmond to DC is an easy run, IF TIMED PROPERLY.

In four years of driving the 270/Beltway to and from school, it was always under construction. And the sprawl pretty much started just south of Rockwell and stopped in Springfield/Franconia.

For me, it's kind of simple - don't go north on 95 between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. don't go south between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. If I do, I go up Route 1. Yeah I get in jams sometimes, but the rule generally works.
