I posted the below in the golf thread on Sports and News, but felt like it might benefit (myself and) others to create a new thread. I imagine some of us feel this way about what we do, so maybe we can create a few good vibes among each other when we feel challenged and, perhaps, down.

Here were my thoughts this evening:

I wrote a thing today, and because I work in golf, it's a golf thing. But I'm pleased with it and have heard some nice feedback from people in the business I appreciate.

As someone who suffers greatly from imposter syndrome, tonight is a good feeling and worthy of a bourbon and a reread.

I'm very bad at this for myself, but pat yourselves on the back sometimes, friends. You certainly deserve it more than you know.

I survived the gauntlet that is being an Army officer. I am promotable to lieutenant colonel, and as long as I don’t bone someone else’s wife or get a DUI, I’ll retire in 2026.
My dad reached that level in the Air Force, tbf, and he was set for life upon retirement. You done good.

There's a bunch of crap going on in local city government in our little town, and it's filtered down to the commission of which I am chair. We had a meeting last night, and it lasted exactly one hour. I ran the meeting according to Robert's Rules, and even shut down a question as it was being asked for a controversial item on the agenda that was a "presentation-only" and not up for discussion. Several folks offered their kudos afterward for keeping things on track and getting done as quickly as possible.

One of the things I do in my job is to examine the nursing-home discharge reports that are mandated to be sent to our state office. And determine if there is something which can be appealed if the discharge is involuntary.

Earlier this week, I came across a discharge and checked the address in Google Maps. It was the parking lot of a Motel Six in a rural county. I believe we're going to be able to prevent the discharge. In the past, we've also taken note of discharges to homeless shelters.

Identifying the bad actors is a good feeling.

My uncle went into the Army in 1933 when he was underage because there were too many mouths to feed at home. If he was 17, he was barely 17. He retired an Air Force major in '63. I don't think the military does that kind of thing anymore.
