Christmas/Holiday Season 2024

I was looking forward to this whole break, kids don't go back to school until the 7th, but the placement of Christmas and New Year's has sort of hurt that overall enjoyment. Definitely over it by today.
I am overall not a Christmas music person but my wife is. She's always been a as soon as the radio starts playing it type. And then as a family we honestly get pretty into it (my 13-year-old actually asked to play some after a basketball game in early November). We have SiriusXM so like all those options. But even though it isn't overall my thing, it has always bothered the crap out of me that they start playing before Halloween is even cold and hard stop on the 26th. The 12 days aren't a thing we do, but crap, the first day is the 25th! And you play that damn song over and over. I'm good with it until New Year's Eve.
Decorations are sort of in the same boat. We are usually Thanksgiving to New Year's people and it's changed here and there over the years. Last year my wife said screw it and they were all gone by New Year's, first time ever in our relationship. This year everything was up on Nov. 10, kind of because it just brightened things and the kids wanted it. They are still up but will be gone this weekend, although with this year's length of time I'm good with being done (sometimes I am sad when they are gone).
Overall on all of it though, I don't care how people do these things. If playing Christmas music year round or leaving lights burning until March makes them happy, go for it.

We took down the two trees (one small, one large, in different rooms) this morning. The lighted wreath outside will be this afternoon. Sometimes we leave them up until the 6th, but both stopped taking in water very early, like before Christmas, so we wanted them out. Rolling up the carpet remnant we put the bug tree and the presents on will only happen after we vacuum up about 12 billion pine needles. Had a great Christmas, but to be honest, on December 30 after my son, his wife, my grandson, and my daughter all left to get back to their lives, the holiday was over for me.

Our house is at the top of a hill, so we can see down into our neighbor's backyard and the back of her house. She typically leaves her tree up and lit (and in the window) until the end of March every year, and this past year, she put it up before Halloween.
Not my vibe, but you do you. What does bother me is that she has a string of Christmas lights all along the back of her house and along both sides of her fence, and the fence that we share in the back, that has the flashing multi-colored lights and is on from dusk to dawn, 365 days a year. Like WTF?

We used to have neighbors behind us that definitely were Halloween until March people on their tree, usually a few days before Halloween. It was huge and they kept that thing glowing every night. Around Valentine's Day they turned the lights pink. They moved a few years ago, but we'd always do a poll on when it would go up and go down. Kind of funny.
The lights thing is becoming more common. I saw an ad for permanent lights the other day. There is a house in our neighborhood that has them, surely goes against the HOA but our HOA actually doesn't enforce much, and they will change the colors for seasons. Like red, white and blue around the Fourth and things like that.

Buddy of mine and I went to the pool room Sunday night then hit a diner after that was still playing Christmas music. When he remarked something along the lines of, "anyone tell them Christmas is over?" I said I actually liked it. We have the local top 40 station on in my office and it's the same 12 corny songs by Taylor Swift, Post Malone or whatever bro country dope all day. I'm perfectly content to have that broken up by Nat King Cole and Darlene Love once a year for a month.

I’m fine with actual carols all the way through Epiphany (not that I hear them outside of church) but the rest of the playlist gets shelved soon after 12-25. And I really don’t start listening until December if I can help it.
Replace one of those blinking bulbs with one that's burned out and hope that the whole string goes dark. She'll have a hell of a time finding the bad bulb, or she'll have to buy and install new lights. Either way, a win for you.
I put up exactly zero Christmas decorations or lights, and I never have a tree. My children's mother does all of it, and we had a tree every year we were together, but I never did anything when I was single.
I had a GF years ago who wanted a tree for our house, so we got one. I came home one night to find the whole tree, stiill decorated, laying in the front yard. She had dragged it out of the house after it fell over several times and left it there. I took a circular saw to the base the next morning and put the tree back up.
Thanksgiving is my holiday, and I don't care much for any of the others.
