I have to say that when I visited Mt. Rushmore a long long long time ago, like 50 years, it was easily the most underwhelming famous national monument/scenic wonder/historic site of my experience. From the vantage point where the tourists are, it looks oddly two-dimensional and distant. Maybe I should've paid for the Eva Marie Saint tour.

I thought it was neat I drove past buffalo on the side of the road
It was early in the morning and I was the only one at the foot of the monument
