Can someone concisely explain Parade magazine to me?

I'm not American, and I always thought Parade was some small magazine of some sort that made All-America picks. Now I see talk of "73 million readers" and "highest-circulation magazine in America" and such, and I'm flabbergasted. What IS it? What does it look like? Who reads it?

I love those questions on the first page of Parade. They're always something that NO ONE IN THE WORLD could possibly want to know about and they're always worded in language that no one would ever write in. 

Q: "Hey, what's Brad Renfro, teenage star of the mid-90's John Grisham legal thriller "The Client" up to these days?"

A: "He's dead!
