Carlos Gomez was a minor league pitcher who became a popular poster on Baseball Primer/Baseball Think Factory known as Chad Bradford Wannabe. When his career ended, he started posting videos on the Web analyzing pitcher deliveries. Now, the 29-year-old has been hired as a scout by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

this is great but it's a little misleading to tout this as a success story for a blogger getting hired by organized baseball.

Perhaps more true to what you're saying: I believe Baseball America had a guy attend MLB's scout school for a multi-part story, but the guy eventually left BA to take a scouting job.

BA somehow secured a pass for the guy, which usually requires a team sponsorship to attend.

I seem to remember a college basketball reporter from North Carolina leaving to become a scout for the Portland Trailblazers something like 15 years ago, but I'm blanking on his name.

Of course, before scouting became sophisticiated, writers from, say, Street & Smith's would serve as scouts, in the sense that a team from time to time would thumb through its work to see who it should draft.
