KU's in front of USC in the BCS rankings. I'll simply enjoy this while it lasts. Hilarious.

USC could have avoided that by beating crappy Stanford.

I'm not so sure. If Kansas runs the table -- the ultimate improbable scenario -- would the numbers be strong enough for the Jayhawks to crack the top two? They're still not in the top 10, and they wouldn't have too many strong wins because in a weird quirk, they miss Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech during the regular season. I'm not sure KU would get the nod if it ran the table.

Luckily, Kansas will face someone decent in the Big XII title game, if they get that far.

That would be Jon Wilner of the SJ Merc-News, who has made his ballot a yearlong exercise in being as contrary as possible to draw attention to himself and/or his blog. He has South Carolina at number 2 - apparently that 6 point win over UNC was more impressive on the west coast than it was here.

I don't get the thinking that Arizona State has beaten no one, yet those "no ones" have already knocked off USC (Stanford), California (Oregon State) and Oklahoma (Colorado). ASU beat all three handily. You can't have it both ways. They've beaten no ones that have knocked off top 10 teams. ASU deserves some credit for that.

93...Really? I would think that any team from a BCS conference that runs the table is a lock for the national title game, if they're the only undefeated team. At least they should be.

Auburn 2004. 12-0 on the outside looking in. 13-0 finished second overall.

USC was undefeated. So was Oklahoma. That makes your point moot.

My post was about leaving an undefeated team out at the expense of a 1-loss team, not at the expense of another undefeated team.

Oz--I don't know about Kansas. If they go undefeated and are left out, it's another reason why preseason polls are a joke. Still, though, if they knock off Oklahoma in the Big XII title game, I think that'd be enough to propel them. With the way the top ten teams are dropping right now, and with tough schedules ahead for a lot of them, it'd be hard to imagine Kansas not moving up into the top 3-4 if they are one of the few remaining unbeaten teams.

A one-loss SEC or PAC-10 champ will hurdle both South Florida and Boston College, and maybe Ohio State, whether they lose or not. That said, I have no problem with South Florida's ranking. BC, however, hasn't earned it.

Excuse my Larry King: You can't knock Arizona State and then argue that Ohio State is No. 1...Aren't Terry Bradshaw and Jimmy Johnson loudly proclaiming their ignorance about college football when they say they don't know who South Florida is?...The argument for the Buckeyes is that they have a great defense. But how do we know with the schedule they have played...If you're are going to use the metric "these are the teams I think would win if they played on a neutral field" you've got to put LSU at the top...I still think Boston College might be in the top two when its all said and done...

See, that's fine. I used to think that about the Gamecocks. Then I looked around and realized there AREN'T any great teams. I mean, look at the BCS Top 10:

1 Ohio St: Hasn't played ANYBODY at all.
2 South Florida: Who the **** knows ... honestly.
3 Boston College: Softer schedule than even Ohio State.
4 LSU: Just lost at Kentucky. KENTUCKY.
5 Oklahoma: Lost to Colorado ... which just got jacked up by Kansas State.
6 South Carolina: I'm a fanboy and I'm positively stunned they're this highly ranked.
7 Kentucky: Lost at South Carolina and still has to play Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
8 Arizona St: Hasn't played anybody, but at least a better schedule than BC.
9 West Virginia: Lost to South Florida already.
10 Oregon: I honestly don't know the first thing about 'em, other than they waxed Michigan.

How many of those teams really instill fear in you? How many can go on the road against a pretty good opponent and leave folks thinking "there's no way they lose that game."

BC hasn't played anyone! No. 3 in the nation? WTF!
