I'm not a Dusty apologist, but this bothers me for one big reason. Baker is more culpable for this Cubs debacle then general manager Jim Hendry. He put this team together with obvious and glaring deficiencies all over the roster, and he gets a free pass? That's bull ****.

I agree, to an extent, that Baker had to go, but so should Hendry. He's the one that relied on Wood and Prior to lead the pitching staff, and he's the one that got outbid for players like Beltran and Furcal, despite a bottomless pit of a pocketbook. This is a sad day in Cubs history because Hendry is still in his office.

I don't know that you could blame anybody for getting outbid for Furcal, because I thought the Dodgers paid too much for him.

How many managers is this for Hendry now? I thought he said once upon a timee that it had to work out with Baker or he'd be gone too. or am I thinking Jerry angelo and Lovie Davis of the Bears. Too many frustrating teams to keep track of damnit. At least the Bears finally appear legit.

Things won't change with the Cubs until either:

a) the Tribune Company sells the team to an owner who is committed to winning on the field and not just racking up profits off of it

b) "fans" stop packing Wrigley Field game in and game out to see crappy teams. If the Tribsters can sell out Wrigley with a horrible on-field product, what incentive do they have to change the way they do things?
