Is he a coordinator right now, or no? I know he's considered a pretty bright mind for football, and was an Ivy Leaguer too. Was a long-time favorite in Dallas who was a damn good backup and won an occassional big game too. I can't say I'm surprised at all, plus, he's one of the rising, young starts of coaching.

There's a story in today's Trib about Jerry Jones' intention to throw a ton of money at Lovie Smith, plus offer the Bears Julius Jones and some draft picks.

And Cowlishaw (in a column that just hit the wire) says the exact opposite:

It’s because of the manner in which Jones selected Parcells (at the repeated urges of critics from all corners to hire an expert and get out of the way) that we know Jones isn’t traveling that road again.
No $5 million a year for Bob Stoops, which would be a significant risk, anyway, despite his Oklahoma record.
No $7 million plus draft picks or whatever it might take to get Bill Cowher back on the sidelines in 2007.
This time I think Jones takes the path of least resistance. He’s not going to bring in a powerful head coach or one that is going to insist on cleaning house of all the assistants under contract for next season.

That Lovie Smith deal won't happen; it's just ridiculous speculative filler during the NFL's fortnight hypefest. Damn media. :D

Jason Garrett?

What?
This is a rumor, but I can see how this would go down for Garrett to get the job (actually someone on national radio brought it up): bring in Wade Phillips to be the HC and have Garrett be the "coach-in-waiting", or make them both co-coaches. Bum's son stays for a few years and when Garrett is ready, Wade hands the keys over to him and he runs the show.

Why would the Bears want Julius Jones with his brother and Benson on the roster?

Seems like Jerry Jones would (based on his history) want more of a yes man than a control freak, unless he could get "one of the greats" (which is why he went after Parcells, I assume).

That Lovie Smith thing seems ridiculous, if only because why in the hell would the Bears want Julius Jones when they already have his brother, Thomas, and Benson.

As an Eagles fan, I say bring back Dave Campo!

Clearly you watched NFL Network last night. They said the same thing.

Well, he wouldn't dictate the same presence in personnel decisions as Bill Parcells, which must appeal to Jerry Jones.
