Amy Schumer, joke stealer?

Not even a joke at her expense ... A joke that was ENTIRELY consistent with her oeuvre ...

Oh, for sure.

Her whole act is, "I'm a huge ****!"

Kid makes a joke that implies she's a huge ****.

She gets pissed.

It would be like making a joke about Lena Dunham molesting children ages 1 to 13.

How could she possibly get mad about that when she uses it as hilarious comedic material?

Hi, Lena Dunham Fixation, ****!

OTOH, it's one thing to call yourself a **** or ***** or whatever. Doesn't mean you like other people calling you that.

If there's anything that really gets my blood boiling, it's when a powerful woman tries to destroy and shame less powerful women who have been victimized, and had the gall to speak up:

"What has always been amazing to me is that she purports to be a feminist and yet only steals from other female comedians. If we call her on it we are "jealous" or career shamed. Be successful. WE want you to do well, just do it will your own material.BTW she blocked me."

You can't claim to be a feminist it you do that!

Hi, Lena Dunham Fixation, ****!

No fixation here. I think the analogy is very apt. Lena Dunham, who is the face of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign, made several jokes about molesting her sister over the course of a decade-plus, in her memoir. It would be slightly hypocritical for Lena Dunham, last seen sporting a wide variety of custom-made Hillary Clinton-themed sweaters as she took to the campaign stump in Iowa and New Hampshire, to get pissy when someone else picked up the joke and ran with it.

It seems to me that the kid was trying to laugh with her, not at her.

She's funny enough to have come back with something to defuse it all with a good laugh, while indicating her persona isn't necessarily who she is. At the very least, she could have stolen a line from someone, as she apparently frequently does.

I guess she went another way.

I remember when liberals were the irreverent ones.

I am suddenly starting to get the sense that you are trying to point out some kind of connection between Hilary Clinton and Lena Dunham.

Can you be a feminist and a slutty comedienne at the same time? Just wondering... Sounds like appositional situations.

That might have been too big of a word for me.

So I think that feminists, like Schumer, talk freely and humorously about their promiscuity because the idea is that the woman is in control and enjoying herself for a change. It's all about her. That's considered ground-breaking.

When a man turns around and jokes about enjoying her company, however, it implies the return of the old power dynamics they resented in the first place: Man uses slutty woman to get off. Jokes about it.

And they don't like it. Watch Trainwreck. As central to the plot as her promiscuity is, there's nothing in it that implies that Schumer is getting used. She's in control. She's the one breaking hearts.

I'm not articulating this very well, but I think I'm on the right track. I took a seminar on obscenity law. Scariest semester of my life.
