Alright all y'all who bitched about SI picking D-Wade, your choice is....

Tiger, Tiger Woods y'all.

AP Athlete of the Year. As voted on by your bosses (or yourself, if you happen to be the boss). Where's the handwringing now? What about Joey Cheek? Or Federer (who I thought would win). Y'all had the chance to right all of SI's wrongs and you picked Tiger? Lame.

Yeah that Tiger certainly was disappointing this season. Don't see what that guy did to deserve the award. Didn't see why they would give the award to such an athlete...I mean hell he didn't even make the cut at one tournament.

There was thread before the NFL season started that handicapped the award and most of us figured it would take a serious performance from an NFL player to catch Eldrick. LDT almost did.

Federer's third-place finish was definitely solid. Most love he's gotten from the AP so far.

So what are you whining about?

There was much hand-wringing and complaining (not by me) when SI picked Wade over candidates considered more deserving. I'd go find the thread, but I'm too damn lazy.
I defended the Wade pick and got considerable heat for it (no pun intended). I figured the posters would implore their bosses to rectify things in the AP vote and make a pick that would better all mankind, as SI apparently failed to do.
There is no bigger Tiger fan than me. I have no problem with the selection, but I guess I'm a little surprised those same posters who slammed SI for picking Wade aren't doing the same when they chose Tiger over Wade and Federer.
Hmmm...

In addition to what Buck said, Tiger has already won the SI award twice -- I think that he's the only person to do that. If he had never won the award, or only won it in 1996, then I think that there would have been considerable discussion with respect to him. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that if he had never won the award before, he would have been a lock to win it this year.

Tiger dominated late in the season as he missed the US Open cut after he came back following his father's death and then won the emotional British Open where he openly wept and showed something new to the golf world. He went on to dominate with a win streak.

If anything, perhaps Earl Woods should have been SI's choice and Tiger getting AP's honor was correct.

It's racism. A half-black man wins over D-Wade? Racism I tell you.

If everyone was whining about Wade getting SI's Sportsman honor, why would anyone complain that Tiger got the AP honor? If anything, people could make the argument that the AP did "rectify things."

Personally, I would have went with LDT ... This wasn't even Tiger's best year and LDT is doing things no other running back in history has. I thought he deserved it, but you can't argue with Tiger winning two majors and half the tournaments he entered. Outstanding year.

Wade won a championship and Finals MVP. Someone does that every year in the NBA.

If Federer didn't win it this year — he was what? 92-5 with three Gand Slams, 12 titles overall? — he'll never do it.

Check out the women's winner. Another golfer.

Bill Simmons (uh oh, should have quoted it anonymously) had a choice I hadn't thought of, and I liked it as much as any other: Drew Brees
