Huge. Freaking. News.

This is the loose thread that will unravel HGH like Balco unraveled roids.

This could also be the kill-shot for Tiger's career.

The Tiger and Torres connections are really damning.

Re: Sports Medicine Pioneer Caught with HGH at The Border

"The F.B.I. investigation of Dr. Anthony Galea, a sports medicine specialist who has treated hundreds of professional athletes across many sports, follows his arrest on Oct. 15 in Toronto by the Canadian police. Human growth hormone and Actovegin, a drug extracted from calf’s blood, were found in his medical bag at the United States-Canada border in late September. Using, selling or importing Actovegin is illegal in the United States."

That would just be the best.

Why's that damaging? I mean, what was Steinberg thinking that, even if perfectly legal platelet therapy was all Tiger got, that people would immediately conclude he's doing HGH, doping and whatever else. I mean, why would he think people would jump to that conclusion? Not like anyone would ever do something like that.

I'll reiterate the question I asked this morning, before this story broke:

I'll pose a hypothetical to all the (wink wink) physicians on the board:

Let's say one decides to seek a competitive advantage by taking testosterone, a la Floyd Landis. Wouldn't one's sex drive be greatly increased as well?

Just wondering.

His sex drive appears to have been in high drive long before he worked with the doctor.

Is that the part where the balls shrivel up?

Even better for BYH, the Steelers were using platelet therapy. Cheaters.

And the Times actually wrote extensively about it in February.

I think it's actually the opposite. Your hormonal system is pretty complex, and sometimes you get unexpected results from tweaking with one of the many hormones.

Hgh isn't the same as testosterone.

Does anyone know if this is a recent picture?

Because he sure doesn't look 50.

Although he said he prescribed human growth hormone to some patients in his general practice and had used it himself for 10 years, Dr. Galea, 50, said in an interview that he had never treated professional athletes with H.G.H.

Enhanced platelet therapy is not new. The link is to an american Academy of Orthopedic Surgery press release from 2007. Sort of experimental and certainly not illegal. It is NOT blood doping, eventhough platelets are a blood product.

Re: Sports Medicine Pioneer Caught with HGH at The Border

I honestly can't remember - did Tiger bulk up before or after the U.S. Open. I remember seeing him at his first tourney of the season (in the last few years) and was struck by how wide his shoulders had gotten.
Seemed pretty clear he'd hit the weights pretty hard.

And lets be honest, to many athletes they hear "cutting edge treatment" not "borderline illegal treatment" when it is being pitched to them. Trainers pitch new treatments and workouts like those guys at the cell phone kiosk at the mall - check this out, brand new, does amazing things...

A 41-year-old won a swimming medal at the Olympics..... I can only suspend reality so far
