'Adam Sandler had this to say about the residents of Seymour, Indiana'

I saw one of these a few months ago about my hometown. Matthew McConaughey said he dated a girl from there and that when he visited with her, everyone was as gorgeous as she was.

Knowing my hometown as I do, I immediately realized it was fake.

I'd love to see the metrics of these fake stories. Which celeb gets the most hits? Does the helpful residents work better or the star wants to move to your town story?

That said, this is pretty good fake news. Packaged like a TV news story, fairly innocuous.

SANDLER

SEYMOUR, Indiana – During a radio interview this morning, Hollywood actor Adam Sandler took a moment to praise Seymour, Indiana residents who had helped him with a mechanical issue with his rental car as he passed through the city recently:

“We were just leaving the city limits of Seymour, Indiana when I noticed that we had a flat tire so I pulled over to the side of the road and we were about to call the car company but then just a minute or two later there were two, maybe three cars that pulled over behind us and offered to put the spare on. So I let them. I mean, I was just so impressed that people could be that friendly to pull over so quickly and offer to help a complete stranger. You have to understand that this is something that would’ve never happened in L.A.!” Sandler said with a laugh.

He added later, “And they had no idea who I was before they pulled over. So yeah, that’s my story about Seymour. It’s nice to know that there are still places like this in America.”

GARDNER, Massachusetts – During a radio interview this morning, Hollywood actor Ben Stiller took a moment to praise Gardner, Massachusetts residents who had helped him with a mechanical issue with his rental car as he passed through the city recently:

That's pretty funny. I wonder if they coordinated their stories. Very cool that they gave shout-outs to real towns.

They mix and match celebrities and towns. Also there is the one where the famous celeb says he/she is moving to your town because they are sick of LA or whatever.

I guess they are easily recycled stories. You can swap the towns and the celebs and use the same template to drive traffic to your spam site for years.

And yet ...

I have trouble gauging ****'s level of con sometimes. I thiught he was impressed with the way the fake stories worked instead of acting like the celebs were being nice.

If Julie Bowen says the same thing about Warrenton, Va., I'm going to freak the **** out, man.
