the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 31% in a day..

Oh, only if message boards were around back then.

I had cashed in $40,000 in stock -- my entire life's assets -- a week and a half earlier to purchase my first house. Had I waited another month I still might be renting an apartment.

I was in college (well JuCo) and had a speech class that night. Was listening to the radio, late in the game (7th or 8th) and had to cut it off.... Right after class (2 hours later)... game was still on... I rushed home to see the end. Great stuff.

And the astros had Mike Scott (he of the dirty splitter) ready for game 7 if it got there.

I was in the press box covering the game. The crowd noise after Hatcher's home run hit the foul pole had no place to go with a roof over it, and it remains the loudest roar I've ever heard.

That includes anything from 92,000 in loud (but open-air) Tiger Stadium at LSU.

It was Morning In America, as I recall.

The day that so many of the specialists threw up their hands, took the phones off the hooks, and walked away.

Undercapitalized cowards. "Orderly markets", my ass.

And the economy took about 20 minutes to bounce back.

It did, eh? I don't recall such a quick bounce-back, but that's just me.
