Seeing Watson lose to Cink was probably the biggest disappointment in golf I have watched on TV in my 50+; how cruel that Watson needed only a par on the 72nd and he could not get up and down (that putt for par was the epitome of a 59 yr old's putt).

What sucks is he hit a really good approach into the green that probably would have stopped in the middle 90 times out of 100. It's not like Mickelson at Winged Foot. He was maybe a hair pumped up, and a better caddy might have told him to hit 9 instead of 8, and then he easily 2-putts to win. I literally had tears of joy in my eyes when he put his drive in the fairway. It was insane. The playoff was so uncomfortable. If you recall, Cink literally won by six shots. But if that 8-iron bounces a foot short, it probably says on the green. Would have been one of the craziest moments in sports history.

I'm with Double Down, I really do think Sergio will get a major at some point. I was down on him for a decade but I think he's ready. Though I think he'd be more likely to bag one from off the pace on Sunday by shooting 66 than from the final group.

If Sergio would have made the putt at Carnoustie, he would have 3 or 4 majors by now.

If Sergio could putt, period.
He was ON the weekend of the U.S. Open. Solid off the tee and tight on approach shots. It was impressive (for a non-elite level golfer ), but he just can't putt.
At 36, the window for him to win a major (on the PGA Tour) is closing fast. He has maybe until he's 38.
If not, maybe he'll go the Monty route and bag a few majors on the Senior Tour.

I'm sure DJ will be favored next week.

Hamilton was the last no-name to do it, although of course Darren Clarke was a big upset, he was hardly a no-name. Otherwise, it's been Z. Johnson, McIlroy, Phil in the last three years. But if you mean some Euro Tour player who's damn good but relatively unknown a la the Masters, I agree.

Watson would have been a top three story in sports history. It was incredible. Glad to have the Peacock broadcasting instead of ESPN's once-a-year foray into golf. Suspect we'll see the debut of Mike Tirico.

Cink is a great guy and had the best tweets for a while; but Watson winning the Open at 59? As a guy in the 50s now, it would have been even more magical thinking about it now. I did not wish anything bad on Cink, just wanted Watson to win so badly.
