Any news on this one? Since Hodges left there have been 8 or 9 changes. Its always been a stepping stone job. Some of the 8 were fired, some moved on to better gigs and some got out of the biz.
I went to school at NW.
1. Mel is awesome.
2. Paper has always struggled with tight budget, turnover etc.
3. Maryville is a great small town and St. Joe is close and has a mall, eateries etc and KC is about 1.5 hours.
Kelly had been at Jacksonville, Ark and last summer he moved to NJ to be with his girlfriend, who had been flying back and forth for work but was forced to relocate. Quinton Bagley was the SE at Searcy. Anyone know what happened to him.
Good stuff to cover, paper is decent, town has its troubles but the people you work with on your beats are some of the better ones you'll encounter in life. Plus, there is a long list of successful writers/editors that are PBC alums.
PM for more.
Know someone who worked there. Worked about 80 hours a week and covered news. Lived in KC area and couldnt even get home for Thanksgiving one year, he worked so much. Someone is going to take this because they need work. I feel sorry for that person.
Always wanted to work at News Press, never had an opening when I was looking. It is that close to KC and St. Joe has some nice things to offer with plenty of restaurants, mall, etc.
PM me for more.

Pete covered the Arkansas Twisters and high schools. Up until last year, he covered the DII schools that play in the Gulf South Conf. He’s covered a lot of beats in his time there.
Todd covered Arkansas State and the AA Arkansas Travelers.
The ADG will continue to cover...
It’s true the paper could just turn to layoffs, but they’re not doing anybody any favors by making this voluntary. When very few people decide to take a cut, they will lay people off and say, “We gave you an option to cut hours but no one took advantage, so now we’re laying people off.”
At my first gig the two schools I covered played HS district tourney games the same night at the same time. I tried to cover both games, and I was running in the parking lot to jump in the car and catch the coach at the other school. I slipped on a patch of ice and severely injured my ankle.
