President Trump 2.0: The NEW one and only politics thread

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

It is incredibly difficult to find reliable sources of news without getting overwhelmed by the sheer madness of what it is to be an American citizen right now.
Right. And that is what I love about The Atlantic. It is doing quality work -- extensive, smart work, sometimes even with different perspectives than I might expect -- with good sourcing and reporting, about myriad important, interesting topics and issues. When things are truly opinion pieces, or even straight analysis, they are cited as such. To me, this is valuable, because there are too many stupid people who can't tell, or believe, the difference. But I firmly believe The Atlantic is still working under the tenets of good, traditional journalism, and there is not enough of that anymore. People are getting used to short blasts, coming from, literally, all over the place, that lack depth, sourcing, and, in many cases facts or truth, even though they are put out as such.

The NYT, rightfully, gets mixed reviews around here for its handling of some things, particularly in terms of opinion offerings, because of its ownership and leanings. But, like even the Washington Post, it, too, still turns out a lot of great deep-dive journalism. If you know how to read and understand news, and can be discerning and smart as a reader, yourself, the Times is still a great vehicle of information. I stopped my subscription to the NYT a few months ago just to save some money, however, and so, I don't/can't post links from there.

That is not the case with The Atlantic, and I really believe as many people as possible should be reading it, and being informed and enlightened by it. Hence, all the gift links, which I think most people/posters can and do appreciate.

I ain't clicking that. Who was it?
Her parents were among the leaders of a Hare Krishna offshoot cult. The guy who ran it it was apparently pulling a lot of strings. The reporter documented multiple instances where Tulsi made statements with wording directly lifted from emails she was receiving. You really should read it, there's some mind blowing stuff in there.

I would add that there are a lot of details in that piece which were only now being reported. The idea that she held a high intel position while someone was pulling her strings by email should scare the **** out of all of us. I hated her in that position long before I heard any of this, and it was far worse than I had imagined.

Under normal circumstances Gabbard would be marched to prison to face a variety of charges based on national security, but under normal circumstances she never would have had a job more significant than waxing surfboards.

Stormfront, Epoch Times and the Babylon Bee.
Don’t go to extremes.

Skunk Stripe will write a tell-all book.

Yup. I didn't like her for her votes and positions as a Democrat, sucking up to Putin, and I liked her even less working for Trump. I had no knowledge of her religious connections. I didn't have to dig deep to know I didn't like her.
Wait until you hear about her days of converting gays to straight, which is part of that cult

Question: For those of us who are seeing direct impacts from the chaotic actions of this administration ... what should we ignore?
If you're seeing direct impacts, then I'm not sure what you'd need The Atlantic, NYT Opinion section or The Free Press to tell you.

There's nothing controversial about what I wrote, except people here like The Atlantic because it's breathless about the relative end of everything that a progressive holds dear. The Free Press is on the opposite end, and the NYT Opinion section is, at this point, a deep stare into the navel, or preening.
