The backup drug test for sprinter Marion Jones came back negative, clearing the five-time Olympic champion of doping allegations that have dogged her for the past month, her attorneys said Wednesday night.
“I am absolutely ecstatic,” Jones said in a statement released by her lawyers. “I have always maintained that I have never ever taken performance enhancing drugs, and I am pleased that a scientific process has now demonstrated that fact.”
Jones tested positive for the banned endurance enhancer EPO on June 23. She withdrew from a meet in Switzerland last month and shortly after that, reports of a positive test were revealed.
The backup test, conducted at the same UCLA lab using the same sample, came back negative, however, meaning the 30-year-old sprinter has been cleared of any wrongdoing. She faced a minimum two-year ban.

Tyler Hamilton (cyclist) at the Olympics, I think. I know there was one time (before he was caught the last time) where his A tested positive, but his B didn't. I think there was screwup in the handling of the B that damaged the sample enough that it couldn't be tested though.

Not as high profile as Jones, but Bernard Lagat, the 2004 silver medalist at 1500 meters, had an A sample test positive for EPO in 2003, and then a negative B sample. The EPO test is, it seems, still something less than reliable. But of course, the A results get leaked anyway.

Or whomever **** Pound gave permission to leak the info. The fact that every test seems to come out before the B sample is tested is pretty damned suspicious.

If some samples are testing positive and others aren't, I guess they need to test the testers because they must be oozing illegal substances.

And everyone always sided with her because she had never tested positive for anything. And we the media and everyone else burried her when the A sample came back positive and said "She's guilty, there's no way her B sample comes back negative" given what we've recently seen with Roids Landice and others, so this is a big deal and I'm glad she was cleared. It just proves NOT all athletes are cheating.

This proves she's not cheating? Maybe it proves that whatever she took dissolved between test A and test B or that she is good at sneaking into labs and replacing dirty urine.

I don't think any clean test proves an athlete isn't cheating. It just proves that they didn't catch them that time.

I agree completely. And I'm not one to defend Marion; I think she has cheated like Bonds and the others. But, these are the rules, **** Pound be damned. It shows there is a problem with the test. I'm more disturbed with the leaking of positive tests after the A sample but before the B sample.
