    That's disgusting.

However, on the bright side, I just added a new phrase to my Lexicon of Corporate Weasel Words: involuntary terminations.

    Wow.

Well we're living here in Allentown
And they're closing all the newspapers down
Out in Bethlehem they're killing time
Filling out forms, standing in line

Sort of sad and ironic: Last summer, the MCall just created a huge employee parking garage directly across the street from the main office ... and I think it may have been because the other one was too small.

Doesn't make a lot of sense in hindsight. Hell, it didn't make a lot of sense last year either.

Wow, I was thinking the same thing. The other thing that's startling is how he basically says " In the next two or three days, we'll decide whether you're unemployed." That's going to create a pretty tense three days in the newsroom.

I'm really tired of media companies hiding behind "the horrible economy" as a justification for these major cuts. They started doing this five or six years ago, when things were rosy. Now they just have a convenient cover.

  6. Well we're waiting here in Allentown
For the Pennsylvania we never found

For the promises our teachers gave
If we worked hard, if we behaved

  7. Every child had a pretty good shot
To get at least as far as their old man got

But something happened on the way to that place
They threw a Morning Call in our face

Might be the most redundant phrase ever created.

Hey, I never knew Billy Joel wrote a song about the town.

I'm glad somebody pointed it out -- and made a salient point at the same time!

This may be a D_B, but I hear Brender and Eddie were the popular steadies and the king and the queen of the prom.

Yeah, but we only cover them when they start to fight when the money gets tight.
