I don't think LeBron got enough credit when he first entered the league.

He couldn't possibly have been hyped any more, but he came in and played well and showed he could handle the jump from high school to the NBA. A couple years later, he's already one of the best in the league, he re-signed with the sorry hometown team that lucked into him and we haven't heard about repeated arrests, baby mamma's taking him to court and/or other stupid juvenile behavior.

LeBron and Mo Clarett were probably a lot alike a couple years ago, in regards to upbringing and hype and (maybe) potential. Now, they're like complete opposites — one is headed to jail while the other is rich beyond his wildest dreams.

Exactly. And going to USC isn't going to help with avoiding distractions.

He's chosen a college before he's chosen a high school.

Mayo played here as an 8th grader. And yes, we do have a rule allowing 8th graders to play on a varsity team. It's a stupid rule, but the KHSAA won't change it.

The main difference, as I see it, is that you can be a complete an total screw-up in the NBA and someone will still offer you a guaranteed max contract based on your "potential" (Exibit A would be Darius Miles, who got a $48 million contract, then taunted his coach with racial slurs, and didn't play hard, and basically quit on his team) whereas in the NFL, they don't fuck around. If you're an idiot, and your attitude doesn't match your talent level, you're playing with the Eastern Indoor Football league within two years. If Lawrence Phillips had been an NBA power forward instead of an NFL running back, some moron like Isiah Thomas, Kevin McHale or Billy King would still be paying him. He might not be in the league, but someone would still be mailing him checks.

O.J. Mayo will make millions of dollars and probably live a comfortable life regardless of whether he's a star or a bust. That's pretty much already been determined.

You're right, it was a full-scale tank job. Of course, with the Lottery system, any one of 13 teams had a shot at him.

BYH, did you know you could get cervical cancer from a virus? That's mind-boggling.
