You'll have to kill the OSU president if you want college football playoffs

University presidents are supposed to be smarter than this, aren't they?

He's saying they'd break away from the NCAA completely, I think. Assuming this includes the non-football playing Big East schools, they'd probably be happy with a 32-team basketball tournament in which they keep more of the money. And it probably wouldn't make much impact for the non-rev sports, since most of them are dominated by the BCS schools anyway.

Actually, the SEC has been pro-playoffs for years. Slive floated an idea for one, which got shot down naturally. And Vince Dooley -- 15 years ago, I think -- did the same before Slive. Same results. The SEC is actually on the same wavelength as Boise State and TCU on this, if you can believe it.

Talk about a hypocrite. Here's the head of OSU trumpeting the academics of its student-athletes and its the very same school that told Robert Smith to take easier courses so as to not take time away from football.

You are correct. The six conferences would break away, along with any other stragglers that they allow, then there's two college sports organizations.

Then you get CBS barking about how they're paying megamillions to have Gonzaga, Siena, Butler and Alabama-Birmingham in the Final Four. Then the breakaway league tries to claim that they're champion is the real champion. And eventually, fans get tired of seeing two champions, one organization breaks up further, and you end up with boxing.

Not to mention who tOSU played THIS year: Marshall, Ohio and Eastern Michigan, sandwiched around a mediocre Miami team.

Gee needs to quaff an industrial-sized vat of STFU, lest he sound more ridiculous than he already does. Then again, Boise St. would take the Buckeyes apart, so perhaps this minor-league Paul Simon is on to something.

Apparently the concept of "expulsion" has never made its way to Columbus.

Maybe Clarett can conduct study sessions with...

Whom, apparently, THE Ohio State University is just fine with having on campus, in contact with scholarship athletes.

By what year do you think there will be a playoff?

Isn't the current bowl contract up in 2013?

I wonder if he feels the same way about Ohio State's medical, physics, chemistry, etc. students competing for research grants and national awards? That's a slippery slope toward professionalism, too.

However Gee said he was in favor of ridiculous pass interference penalties in a national championship game.

Didn't realize the legs this thing would have when I bumped it.

Dan Wetzel with an instacolumn saying Gee is actually arguing against the BCS and has helped an antitrust lawsuit:
