I've never written about cops. Feel free to find something. They put their life on the line every day. They ain't making a big ol casserole in the kitchen during work hours.

I think teachers make a nice living for 9 months work. But I don't see teachers retiring at 50 like firefighters.

You want a 66 year old Bob Hope-looking fireman coming in to save you? You'd probably ending up saving him.

I 5th on the Agassi book... Loved it.

As for Fireman Ed, Fireman Ed talks about Fireman Ed in the third person...

I have a responsibility to the families and kids that enjoy the game and Fireman Ed.

Here's the passage I showed my students - it introduces the chapter in which he learns that he failed the drug test but had cleaned himself in the interim.

I'm willing to believe all of this, but do you have links to some of this?

    Here is disability story:
"Mr. Anzalone joined the Fire Department in September 1987. He retired 20 years later, on the button, in September 2007.

He said he was forced out — “The doctor said I could not be a firefighter anymore; I could not fight fires anymore; that broke my heart” — and retired on a disability pension. He had knee surgery in 1997, he said. Before that, he had back and neck injuries.
